Lifestyle commercial medical photography & creative direction — from home medical devices to wearable tech.

Chelsea Loren is a commercial lifestyle photographer and creative director specializing in story-driven medical and healthcare photography for brands that want their products to feel real, human, and trustworthy—not clinical or stock.

She partners with marketing directors and product marketing teams to create elevated lifestyle imagery that shows who a product is for, how it fits into everyday life, and why it matters—while remaining FDA-aware, brand-forward, and marketing-ready.

With a background in editorial photography and marketing strategy, Chelsea creates lifestyle medical imagery designed to perform across paid ads, websites, packaging, and sales materials. Her work focuses on real environments and thoughtful storytelling—keeping the product as the hero while the visuals feel warm, natural, and authentic.

INQUIRE HERE

I came to commercial photography from the editorial side. I've worked as a features editor, contributed regularly to Travel + Leisure, and directed content for a Forbes-listed travel platform. That meant years of watching what happened to imagery after the shoot — which frames got used again, which ones carried a campaign, which ones quietly died on a landing page.

That perspective shapes how I approach medical and healthcare work. A device campaign is never one hero image. It's a system: PDP assets, paid social crops in three ratios, email, print collateral, trade show walls, and a sales deck, all pulled from the same production and all needing to hold together. I build shot lists around that reality and direct on set with placement in mind.

Fourteen years in and more than 500 brands later, I run productions end to end — creative direction, casting, location sourcing, wardrobe and prop styling, crew, and post — for teams who need a production partner rather than a photographer for hire. Based in San Diego, producing nationwide.

WHY BRANDS & AGENCIES CHOOSE ME

Selects are delivered within 2 business days of the shoot, with final retouched assets typically three weeks after selections are approved. Rush turnarounds are available and scoped in advance. If you're working toward a launch date, tell me the date first and I'll build the schedule backwards from it.

What is your turnaround?

Usage is written into the estimate rather than left open. Term, territory, and channels are specified up front — a defined paid media window, a perpetual web and owned-channel grant, a category-specific buyout — and licensing is priced as its own line rather than folded invisibly into the production cost. Extensions are available later at a rate agreed in the original agreement, so a campaign that outperforms doesn't turn into a renegotiation.

If you're not certain what the campaign will need, that's a good scoping-call conversation. Under-licensing costs more to fix after the fact than buying the right term does up front.

How does usage and licensing work?

Yes. I'm based in San Diego and produce nationwide, either traveling with a core team and hiring locally, or running the production here — Southern California offers a deep bench of talent, locations, and crew, and clients frequently fly in rather than shooting in-market.

Do you work with brands outside of San Diego?

Yes. Casting, location scouting, wardrobe and prop styling, and crew hiring are all part of full-service production. For medical work that often means patients and real device users from the brand alongside professional talent, working with minors, and building a cast that spans age and body type deliberately rather than defaulting to one demographic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are photos typically used?

Images are commonly used across:
  • Paid ads (Meta, Google, Amazon, etc.)
  • Brand and product websites
  • Amazon listings and PDPs
  • Email marketing
  • Packaging
  • Print brochures and sales decks
All projects include a discussion around usage rights and licensing so assets are delivered with clear intent.

Do you shoot both e-commerce and lifestyle content?

Yes—I regularly create versatile assets for ads, websites, print, and organic social media.

Do you work with agencies, or only directly with brands?

Both. A significant share of my campaign work comes through branding and creative agencies and in-house marketing teams, and I'm familiar with how those engagements run: brief and shot list, competitive bid, pre-production meeting, client attendance on set, and structured rounds of review. I'm happy to be added to a roster or to receive bid requests directly.

Do you shoot video alongside stills?

Yes. Photography and short-form video are regularly captured in tandem within the same production, which is significantly more cost-efficient than two separate shoots.

How do you handle bids, estimates, and RFPs?

After a scoping call I provide a line-itemed estimate with production, talent, licensing, and post-production separated, so it reads cleanly against an approved client budget. I'll flag where scope can flex if the number needs to move, rather than quietly cutting quality. If you need the same production quoted in more than one market, I'll bid both.

What is lifestyle medical photography?

Lifestyle medical photography shows healthcare and medical device products being used in real environments — a bedroom, a kitchen, a car, a commute — rather than in sterile studio or purely clinical settings. The goal is to communicate who a product is for, how it's used, and how it fits into someone's daily life, while keeping the product accurately represented and the messaging compliant. In regulated categories it's usually the difference between imagery that reads as stock and imagery a patient recognizes as their own life.
