Meet Chelsea

If you run a bedding company like Jennifer Adams, you know that high-quality product photography can make all the difference in sales. Customers want to see crisp, clear images of your products before they make a purchase.

It’s so helpful to see bed sheets, quilts, pillowcases, and linens styled in a lifestyle setting, close up detail images, and making sure the color is consistent with the product – no matter the lighting.

That’s why it’s important to hire a professional product photographer who specializes in commercial product photography…and that’s where I come in!

I’m Chelsea Loren, an expert product photographer based in San Diego (though I work with businesses and brands all over California, and the world, for that matter).

I photographed this line of bedding for the Jennifer Adams brand; they have the highest quality bedding — it’s luxurious, soft, and breathable and makes for the best cozy neutrals in your home. With a “California Cool” and West Coast comfort approach to linens, Jennifer Adams sells bedding and home goods both online and in big box stores like Costco.

When it comes to linen product photography, there are a few key things to keep in mind. I’m sharing some tips and tricks for linen product photography that can help elevate your bedding to the next level. Here’s my guide to bedding product photography!

1. Use Natural Light

When it comes to product photography, lighting is everything. Natural light is the best option for linen product photography, as it helps to highlight the texture and colors of the fabric.

As a San Diego product photographer, I am lucky to have access to plenty of natural light.

When shooting indoors, it’s ideal to position the bedding near a window and make use out of natural light. If the need arises, you may need to use diffusers to soften the light or bring in fill lights if the room is too dark.

A critical thing to pay attention to when it comes to lighting (and shadows) is the color temperature and how that affects the room and the linens.

You want to ensure the colors of the linens are accurately represented in the photos and may need to color correct — particularly if you are photographing in a home/lifestyle setting and the lighting changes throughout the day.

By ensuring the color is consistent with the product and accurately displayed in the photos, you’ll have less returns as the customers are seeing a true to life image of the product.

2. Consider the Audience

Who is the target market? What do they do for fun? What does their home look like? What would their Pinterest board look like? What things do they like and what things are important to them?

These questions are crucial for any branding photography or product photography session, as you need your ideal customer in mind to create strategic imagery with them in mind.

3. Choose the Right Background

The background you choose can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of your product photography. White or neutral-colored backgrounds work well for linen product photography.

For the Jennifer Adams bedding photoshoot, we rotated between three different rooms with clean hues and simple styling.

4. Style the Bedding

Lifestyle product photography is all about telling a story. To make your bedding stand out, I recommend styling it in a way that showcases the product in use.

For example, you could photograph the bedding on a made bed with a few coordinating throw pillows and a folded blanket at the foot of the bed…and after the “nice” styled shot, muss up the bed a little bit and make it look like it was slept in, or set a breakfast in bed scene.

This will help customers envision how the bedding will look in their own home.

You want your linens to look inviting and comfortable. If you’re moving through different set-ups and bedding sets, you may want to consider hiring a bed stylist who will steam, fluff, and fold all the items and ensure the bed is always in tip-top shape.

That way you can make the most out of your photoshoot time instead of steaming out wrinkles and changing out linens.

5. Focus on Detail Shots

While it’s important to show the bedding in use, it’s also important to capture detailed shots that highlight the quality of the product.

As a bedding photographer, I like to zoom in on the texture of the fabric, the stitching, and any unique design details. These shots can help customers see the quality of the product up close.

6. Work with a Professional Product Photographer

Finally, the best way to ensure high-quality linen product photography for your bedding is to work with a professional product photographer who specializes in commercial product photography.

As a San Diego product photographer, I have the skills and experience needed to create stunning images that will help your beddings and linens stand out from the competition.

Linen product photography is an important part of marketing your bedding. By using natural light, choosing the right background, styling the bedding, focusing on detail shots, and working with a professional product photographer, you can create images that showcase your product in the best possible light.
