Tips for Hosting a Mamma Mia-Inspired Twin Baby Shower
Our baby boy and girl are arriving soon, and what better way to celebrate than with a Mamma Mia-inspired baby shower? This theme was perfect for incorporating both pink and blue baby shower decorations, plus plenty of Greek island vibes—think Santorini blues, dreamy florals, and lots of sparkle.
We’re in the home stretch of this pregnancy, eagerly counting down the days until we meet our little ones. This shower was such a special way to soak in all the love and support from our incredible friends and family.
My mom hosted the most beautiful Mamma Mia baby shower, and as a total planner (seriously, I love designing events!), I couldn’t resist collaborating with her on all the little details. From decor to food to fun twin baby shower games, we poured our hearts into creating a magical day.
A huge thank you to all of my friends and family—near and far—who have been so supportive throughout this exciting journey. I love you and appreciate you more than words can say!
We had our twin baby shower when I was 32 weeks pregnant, but if I could offer one piece of advice? Consider doing it a little earlier!
Since twins often arrive before their due date, many moms-to-be find that the 26-30-week mark is the sweet spot. At 32 weeks, you might already be feeling tired, swollen, and over it—which, let’s be real, isn’t ideal for a long day of celebrating.
For us, the timing was tricky with the holidays, and 32 weeks worked well—but if you have the flexibility, an earlier shower gives you time to organize gifts, set up the nursery, and prepare for your little ones’ arrival without feeling rushed.
From the moment we started planning, I knew I wanted a Mamma Mia baby shower theme. I’ve always loved ABBA (the band), the movie musical, and those dreamy Greek island vibes—plus, decorating with bougainvillea, blue hues, and Mediterranean details felt effortless…and quite a fun way to incorporate both blue and pink.
That said, if you’re still searching for the perfect twin baby shower theme, here are some fun and creative ideas:
No matter what theme you choose, the most important thing is that it reflects you and makes the day feel extra special!
Mamma Mia! Chelsea and David are expecting…
(Dot dot dot) and it’s twins!
Our invitations played off the iconic “dot dot dot” from the Mamma Mia movie and musical, making them both fun and on theme. If you’re planning a Mamma Mia baby shower, Etsy has a fantastic selection of customizable invitations that fit the vibe perfectly.
Managing RSVPs can be overwhelming, but we found a few ways to simplify the process:
I know this can be a little tricky, but since our twins already had a fully stocked wardrobe, we kindly asked guests not to bring clothes or blankets. Instead, we highlighted the baby essentials we actually needed.
To make this request in a thoughtful way, you can include something along the lines of:
“Our little ones are already set with plenty of clothes and blankets, but we would truly appreciate help with the essentials that will get us through the first year!”
“In lieu of a card, we’d love for you to bring your favorite children’s book with a special note inside—we can’t wait to build a library full of stories and love.”
This way, guests felt guided rather than restricted, and we still received truly helpful gifts.
One thing I highly recommend? Having your baby registry ready before sending out invitations! We were shocked by how quickly gifts started rolling in—some guests literally placed orders minutes after receiving their invite. So, if you’re planning a twin baby shower, make sure your registry is set to go!
I’ll be putting together a full Twin Baby Registry Essentials guide soon (once I’ve tested all the gear!), but in the meantime, here’s what made the process easier for us.
I decided to use Babylist for our registry, and I couldn’t recommend it more! A few reasons why it was a great fit:
Setting up a twin baby registry can feel overwhelming, but using a platform with built-in resources made it so much easier.
1:00 – 1:45 PM | Lunch & Mingling
2:00 – 2:45 PM | Games & Fun
Pro Tip: One of the simplest yet most genius baby shower hacks? Providing guests with a plain envelope and asking them to pre-address it to themselves.
This saves so much time when it comes to sending out thank-you notes and birth announcements.
We got so many comments on how brilliant this was! I can’t take full credit— a friend did this at her shower, and I immediately knew I had to do the same. Trust me, future you will be so grateful.
How to Set It Up:
3:00 PM | Gift Opening
3:30 PM | Dessert & Coffee Break
4:30 – 5:00 PM | Wrap-Up
When it came to planning the menu, I wanted to make sure we had something for everyone, including those with dietary restrictions. Vegetarian and vegan options were a must, and I made sure there was a mix of hearty and light options. Here’s what we served at our Mamma Mia-inspired baby shower:
Menu
Greek-Inspired Spread: Greek Salad, Chicken Kebabs, Veggie Kebabs, Falafel, Lemon Greek Rice, Pita Bread & Tzatziki, Hummus
Drinks
Still & Sparkling Bottled Water, Sparkling Ice (flavored water), Coffee with Half n Half, Oat Milk, and Sugar-Free Sweet Cream. For sweet options: Sugar, Sweet n Low, and Splenda.
Glass Jars for Coffee Station, along with labels, and chalk paint pen
This was an absolute hit and super easy to put together! We initially considered serving frozen Greek yogurt, but the logistics of keeping everything at the perfect temperature seemed tricky.
So, we opted for a DIY yogurt bar—and it worked perfectly. Guests had a blast customizing their own dessert bowls with tons of tasty toppings.
Yogurt Options: Plain Greek Yogurt (Costco’s brand is fantastic!), Vanilla Greek Yogurt, Coconut Yogurt (Dairy-free option for our vegan guests)
Toppings: Sour Cherries (also known as “spoon sweets;” If you’ve been to Greece, you know! A fun but unique touch… though a little difficult to find! I purchased two versions from Amazon and mixed them together: 1. Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet 2. Pitted Sour Cherries), Strawberries, Mixed Berries, Pistachios, Granola, Sliced Almonds, Mini Chocolate Chips, Pomegranate Seeds, Honey
Utensils: Spoons for serving, Serving Dishes for each topping, individual disposable bowls, disposable spoons
Decorating for a Mamma Mia-inspired baby shower was a blast! I wanted to create a vibrant, fun atmosphere that captured the essence of Greece. Here’s what we put together to set the scene:
One of my favorite DIY touches was hanging baby clothes from clotheslines strung across the ceiling with clothing pins. We originally planned to hang just one strand between the kitchen and living room, but once we saw the adorable stack of clothes, we couldn’t resist going all out!
It felt like walking through the streets of Greece with little clothes fluttering in the breeze—it was adorable. Plus, since we already had the clothes, it was an inexpensive way to add a lot of charm without extra costs.
We also created a photo wall featuring pictures of my husband and me from childhood. It was a sweet and sentimental touch that added a personal, heartfelt element to the shower. Guests loved seeing our younger selves and reminiscing with us about growing up.
While we didn’t end up doing this, we talked about the idea of creating a baby shower website. At first, I thought it might be a little much (like a wedding website), but it could be a really fun and interactive way to share photos from our pregnancy journey—like the first ultrasound, the moment we found out we were pregnant, maternity photos, and everything in between.
You could also add baby photos of yourselves to make it even more personal.
It’s not for everyone, but if you’re into sharing your story, it could really get your guests excited to celebrate the little one and make them feel even more involved. Just something to consider based on your style and comfort level!
Pro Tip: Make sure you have enough pens and writing surfaces! We printed everything on thicker cardstock instead of using clipboards (60 clipboards felt a bit excessive). I used a customized Canva page from Etsy to create everything—super easy and personalized!
For my French Riviera-themed bridal shower, I made prize baskets filled with a mix of fun goodies. But, honestly, you can never go wrong with gift cards—places like Amazon are always a hit! These small tokens of appreciation really made the games feel more festive and added an extra element of fun to the shower.
I found a local baker through a recommendation from a friend, and we collaborated on creating cookies that matched the Mamma Mia theme. I provided her with a moodboard inspired by ideas I found on Instagram and Pinterest, and the results were absolutely adorable. These cookies were not only delicious but also perfectly matched the vibe of the shower!
For take-home favors, my friend Megan of Corridor Candle Co. created these amazing travel-size candles. These were a big hit with guests, and we didn’t have any left by the end of the shower, which was great! A perfect, personalized touch to say “thank you” to everyone who came.
I found the perfect sparkly blue dress from Anthropologie (not maternity!), and I know I’ll be able to wear it for events even after the baby arrives. It’s such a great investment!
While not necessary, you could encourage guests to wear blues and whites, overalls, or anything Grecian-inspired to really lean into the theme. However, it’s all about comfort, so don’t stress about a strict dress code!
There’s a saying about the shoemaker’s children not having their own shoes, and well, that certainly applied to my baby shower.
Both my mom and I are professional photographers, and while we captured the setup and decor, we totally forgot to take individual photos with our guests! (We had a large crowd—about 60 people, so it’s easy to see how this slipped through the cracks.)
If photos are important to you, consider hiring a photographer for the event to ensure all the special moments are captured.
If you’re opening gifts at the shower (we did), make sure you have someone designated to write down who gave what for thank you notes later. This helps streamline the post-shower follow-up process.
We took a break halfway through opening gifts to enjoy the dessert and coffee spread. It was a much-needed pause, and I definitely recommend this, especially with a larger crowd.
If you’re hosting your shower at a location other than your home (like mine, which was at my mom’s place in Orange County), make sure to plan for transporting everything back afterward.
My husband and I both filled our cars to the brim with gifts and items. If you’re hosting at a third-party venue, where you can’t leave things behind, you’ll want to consider asking guests who are purchasing larger gifts (like high chairs, strollers, car seats, etc.) to send them to your home ahead of time to avoid any stress.
My best friend, who has three kids of her own, was an absolute lifesaver! She helped organize all the gifts into baskets or bags based on their category.
For example, books went into one basket, diapering supplies into another, pacifiers and food items into their own baskets, etc. This was so helpful for when we got home, as it made setting everything up in its designated spot much easier.
And those are all my tips and tricks for hosting a Mamma Mia-inspired twin baby shower!
